Mission: Prelude to Rebirth
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: 29 January, 2396

Malcom eased his way into the sickbay, his head slowly taking in the room. He could see that there had been some improvements during the refit. The biobeds had been upgraded to those that were being used on the Sovereign class ships. They certainly looked more comfortable. He also appreciated the use of the new holographic displays, which were moveable in the sickbay.

"Well, Captain Llwyedd," the EMH said, strolling out of the Chief Medical Officer's office. "Is there some medical emergency or are you simply gawking at the much overdo upgrades?"

"Honestly, doctor, it is a little of both," Malcom said. "I thought I might as well get my physical done before the rush hits down here and, yeah, I was curious to see what the refit crew had done. It looks like they did a great job, don't you think?"

The EMH motioned for Malcom to sit on one of the biobeds and pulled out a medical tricorder. He spoke as the small machine hummed. "Oh, great job indeed. They managed to put new biobeds in but because of the massive size of the things, I now have one fewer biobed to use. What shall I say when we have one casualty too many? 'Oh, I'm sorry. You'll just have to hold onto your arm for a moment until I clear that bed," the EMH said and snapped the tricorder closed.

"Well, we do have..." Malcom started to say.

"Oh don't give me some story about how the Firebird has a larger sickbay than a ship five times her size. Who cares?! You're always rushing into places where we are facing casualties five times more than we should be encountering. You make my words, sir, I will run out of space someday," he said and put the tricorder down, picked up a hypospray, and injected Malcom's neck.

"Doctor, we could add more staff if you agree. I know that there are some good young doctors simply looking for an opportunity," Malcom said and then let the words die out. The EMH was glaring at him with huge eyes and a shiny head in a way that made Malcom think of a Gretellian ape.

"I'm not online for more than a week and you're already trying to impose another Chief Medical Officer on me? Please, captain, for once, let's use logic, shall we? How many Chief Medical officers have you had in the past two years?"

Malcom frowned. "Well, I think..."

"Four. You've had four, sir. Almost none of them were CMO material if you ask me. Especially the last one who was barely out of the academy. Let me run things here the way they should be run and you'll have no more issues, I promise you." The hypospray hissed again.

"You may go, captain," the EMH said.

"Great. Thanks," Malcom said and bolted out of Sick Bay. It was only when he stepped onto the turbolift that he realized he had no idea what the hyposprays had been for. Best not to ask.
"Bridge."

Some future JP where the captain discovers that hypospray was an experimental drug not intended for use yet. Love the interaction because the EMH is great. :-)
