Friendly Operations [FLASHBACK]

Posted on Mon Nov 23rd, 2020 @ 6:34pm by Captain Malcom Llwyedd & Lieutenant Cynfor Rees & Lieutenant JG Owen Woodhouse

Mission: Interlude 4
Location: Ops Chief's Office
Timeline: 14 May, 2395 - 1100 Hours

After all of the excitement, Cynfor was glad to have nothing except for paperwork to do. There were quite a lot of requisitions coming from all over the ship and she was sorting through them, he decided which had the priority and which ones could wait. It was then that he gave a quick side glance to a PADD, it read of his new assistant chief, a Lieutenant Junior Grade Owen Woodhouse. Rees read over the other man's service record and found him to an exemplary young officer. Well it seems like now would be a good time to get to know this new member of our Firebird family and perhaps even get some help with this confounded paperwork. Rees thought.

=/\=Rees to Woodhouse please report to my office.=/\=

Woodhouse acknowledged the summons and made his way to Rees' office in short order.

"Sir," Owen greeted the older officer as he in and took a quick glance about the unfamiliar office area. "Woodhouse reporting... as requested."

Cynfor smiled broadly. "Lieutenant please have a seat and welcome aboard the Firebird. I am sorry for not getting to meet you sooner, but our work is never done..." He chuckled at his own joke. "...I thought this would be a good time to get to know each other and answer any questions that you may have."

"Oh, of course. No, I completely understand," Owen moved to the chair and sat down. "I've just been.. uh, finding my way around, getting to know the ship. I don't know that I have many questions yet, everyone's been very welcoming."

"Too right you are. The Firebird is one small yet happy family. Very often I find that a person's service record does not do them justice. Why don't you tell me a little about yourself? And while you are doing that I will fix us some refreshment. Can I get you anything?" Rees spoke as he moved toward the old style kettle that was on the replicator. He still used it for his tea, of which he had a mind for at the moment.

"Oh, wow. Refreshments," Owen noted aloud, a little surprised by Rees' relaxedness, but certainly not complaining about it. "What about a lemonade?"

"Well, where to start. My last posting was to the Rhea as their cartographer and that's really what I thought I'd be doing for the rest of time," the junior officer chuckled. "But I suppose the universe has other plans for us."

"The universe always has other plans..." Rees began as he set a lemonade for his guest and a sweet tea for himself on the desk. "...This is my second career in Starfleet. I left and came back. When I left I never thought I would be back and yet here I am. So, what do you expect out of service here on the Firebird?"

"I suppose that depends on your expectations for me," Owen answered. "I'd like to think I understand enough to know that the job changes constantly, in response to what's needed. I think I'm pretty flexible to do what's needed in the moment." He let the words linger in the air as he took in Rees' apparent overload of work. "I saw some new crates of emergency supplies being loaded from Empok Nor. Have they been inventoried yet? I'd love to help if I can."

"That my dear boy would be stellar. We could always use the help. As for the formalities. You will have a bridge shift, yours will be Beta Shift. When the ship is on mission be sure to coordinate with the mission advisor as to what systems are needed etc... We also work with Engineering on most of what we do. Often augmenting the Engineering teams when needed. I am sure that you have no issues with any of that. Due to the nature of the missions that the Firebird handles you can expect to have to think outside the box often." Rees said with a smile and then sipped his tea. When he finished speaking he gauged the reaction of his new assistant. Cyn did not want to overload the other man with information.

"Good, because I don't even know where the box is at," Owen beamed. He nodded appreciatively at the rather comprehensive list of duties. "I can't wait to get started."

"Very well. Go get settled into your quarters etc, then make your way to the cargo bay to get those emergency supplies sorted. Hopefully, soon we will be getting underway and then the real fun can begin." Rees said with a smile. He already had the feeling that the other man would fit in nicely.

"Aye, Sir," Owen acknowledged, more sharply than necessary for dramatic effect. He rose to his feet and gave the Ops Chief a nod before exiting his office.
