Do No Harm [Flashback]

Mission: Mission 6: To Your Scattered Bodies Go
Location: USS Mariner
Timeline: 2386

Dr. Kaar led the small group into sickbay, still wondering just how the ship had been boarded in the first place, let alone secured by a hostile force. She wasn't even sure who the hostile force was either, though the large green brute escorting her made her suspect the Orion Syndicate. That was more than enough supposition, though, as she had her hands rather full.

"Put her there, Ensign K'Tuth," she ordered, and the Klingon Ops officer complied, lowering the final member of their mixed party onto the surgical biobed in the back alcove of sickbay. He then stepped back to allow the doctor room to work, his furious eyes shifting to the brute now guarding the door. "Easy , Ensign," Kaar advised as she began to scan her patient, an Orion female who had been critically injured while capturing their ship. "I need you calm and focused. These... people may be our enemy, but I'm not going to let this one die."

"Besides," she added, giving K'Tuth a brief but pointed look. "I've got this under control." The Klingon nodded and stepped back, trusting the CMO to make her move in her own time.

Jamia finished her scans and announced her findings. "It's what I thought, embolic aneurysm." She readied a neural caliper, the small device that would render a patient deeply unconscious when placed on the forehead in order to permit medical procedures. "She's going to need surgery if she's going to live, and I'm going to need both of you to help if this is going to work."

K'Tuth nodded and moved to her side, but the Brute held back, suspicious.

"I said I need both of you," Kaar asserted, meeting the Orion's skeptical glance. "Once I've induced the patient, she is likely to experience seizures and I cannot correct the aneurysm if she's thrashing about. I need each of you on either side, holding her shoulders and legs as still as possible."

Again the brute hesitated, so Jamia walked over to him. "I know we're opponents, but my only concern at this moment is my patient's survival. I am a doctor, and I give you my word, I will do no harm." The massive Orion seemed to consider her words, so she sweetened them by adding, "I also outrank my colleague, and I am giving him a direct order right now to not engage you in any way." K'Tuth grunted an acknowledgement, and Jamia closed her appeal with a sincere expression of concern and honesty.

Reluctantly, the Brute moved into position, and as soon as he secured his wounded partner, Kaar swiftly slapped the caliper on his forehead. Before he could register what had happened, she activated the device and he dropped to the floor in a medically induced coma.

As K'Tuth nodded, impressed with the doctor's unexpected maneuver, Kaar activated the biobed's stasis field. "She will need surgery, you know, but I think we have higher priorites." Stepping near her office, she pressed a panel on the wall and retrieved two phasers, handing one to her fellow officer. "Now that triage is complete, how do you feel about taking back the ship?"
