Mr Computer, I wish to record a personal missive

Hermóðr hear my words

I have arrived aboard the Firebird after completing advanced training in security procedures. The ship is posted to the Gamma Quadrant so I find myself on the other side of the galaxy from my father. Joining Star Fleet was, amongst other things, an attempt to get closer to him and now I am further away than ever. “Duty is a harsh Master” my father said many times when he would be unable to visit. It made little sense to an eight-year old girl but now, a decade later, I understand the depth of his devotion to duty.

I find that the training in Star Fleet security procedures was physically unchallenging. Growing up amongst my mother’s people on Odinsvelt prepared me in a way that allowed me to excel over most of the other trainees from Federation core worlds. Academically, however, the training was harder. The Federation relies on advanced technology to a degree that I find impenetrable. Phasers and PADDs are easy enough but other equipment is as impenetrable to me as Nifolheimr. I shall endeavor to find other ways to distinguish myself.

I hope that I shall acquit myself with distinction and bring great honor and respect to the Odinskus people.

So I say in Hermóðr’s name.

End personal missive
